    James Earl Stanley, 32, of Killeen was supposed to appear in court Wednesday morning on a charge of escape from custody, but he couldn’t because he was dead, Stanley’s attorney, Kurt Glass, said.Glass arrived at the Bell County Justice Center Wednesday and was informed through a text message that Stanley’s bond company stated that he wouldn’t be there because he was dead, he said.Stanley was scheduled for a pretrial hearing Wednesday in Judge John Mischtian’s County Court at Law No. 2 courtroom, Glass said.Stanley’s birthday was Wednesday, Bell County Chief Deputy Chuck Cox said.

    A woman who created a Facebook page and said she sent thousands of emails to describe alleged sexual assaults on her when she was a child will have her day in court March 23.A Bell County grand jury indicted Shawn Aric Tolbert, 38, of Temple in June 2014 on three counts of aggravated sexual assault in connection with incidents involving a girl younger than the age of 14, according to the arrest affidavit.

    Unless an abandoned building “looks derelict,” no one is going to inspect it, was the message from Joe Mudd, manager of Temple’s Code Enforcement Department.The collapse of an exterior wall at an unused warehouse at 207 S. Main St. on Feb. 2 raised questions about the structural integrity and safety of some of the other abandoned buildings in the city’s urban core. Like most of the abandoned buildings in Temple, the warehouse remained uninspected for years, Mudd said.
